Catching Up
Apr. 14th, 2010 04:37 amI had a great birthday in Smiths Falls. We actually spread out the celebration over nearly a week so my diet was pretty much smashed to shreds. The highlight was going into Ottawa to see the Senators play what turned out to be an absolute thriller of a game that clinched their playoff berth. We also saw several movies including Clash of the Titans, which wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.
Many thanks to my flist for the birthday wishes and pics and V-gifts and the lovely story by

I just realized that thanks to all my recent travels, I haven't reviewed any Smallville episodes since Absolute Justice. So for the record, here are some mini reviews.

I'm just about to head off to Smiths Falls to visit with my sister. In case I can't get online until I return, here's wishing you all well! I'll be back on April 9th.
New Smallville crossword puzzle
Mar. 18th, 2010 06:10 pmTo help tide me over the hiatus, I created another Smallville crossword puzzle. The clues focus on Smallville villains and a few other mutants who wound up fighting for the good side.
Note this is a Java applet so should work in most browsers. I can also provide it in Word format, though obviously this doesn't provide the help buttons available in the Java version.
PS - its been a pretty good week for fic, thanks in no small part to the

Random Questions
Mar. 12th, 2010 04:10 pmAlthough I primarily ship Clex, I enjoy a lot of Chlark and other Clark pairings too. Basically as long as its well written and compelling characerization, I'll read it. One thing I've noticed though is a distinct dearth of Clois fic on my flist. Is it all hiding on DI, or buried in Fanfiction.net (which I refuse to weed my way through)? Is there some LJ out there where I can find links?
On a totally unrelated note, can anyone point me to some Lex-caliber commentary on Julius Caesar, specifically the play by Shakespeare and then generally on the topic of his assassination. I'm working on a story and want to make Lex's comments sound Lex-like.
And finally, don't forget to check out my pics from the Olympics on my facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=150199&id=619487292&l=36cbecb6b2 Whistler looked absolutely gorgeous for the middle week of my trip. Oh, and if you're on Facebook and want to friend me, I'd be honoured. I mostly post about Zoo World though!
Oh, and before I forget - many thanks to twinsarein for the lovely v-gift. Your lovely comments really brightened up my day!
Smallville 9-11/12 - Absolute Justice
Feb. 8th, 2010 02:12 pmA++. I totally loved this episode, even though I understand and share much of the criticism I've seen directed its way. How does that work? Because I enjoyed what I saw, even as in retrospect I can see opportunities where it could have become so much more.
( "This is a job for Clark Kent" )
Sadly, I will miss the next few episodes as I'm off to Whistler tomorrow for the Olympics. Go Canada! (Had to sneak that in.) I may tweet a few updates (jlvsclrk) if I can figure out how to do so on the road (I'm sadly behind the times). BTW, the postcard offer still stands if you want one.
Keep safe all. Talk to you again when I get back at the end of the month.
Disciple 9-10
Feb. 3rd, 2010 09:51 pm( Stray thoughts under the cut ) PS - I'm leaving next week for Vancouver-Whistler and the Olympics. If you'd like a postcard, please send me a PM with your address. Thanks!
Smallville Quote Puzzle
Jan. 31st, 2010 10:13 pmI don't have all that much to say about Disciple so no episode review yet. Instead, if you're in a puzzling frame of mind, check out my latest crossword puzzle - it was supposed to be published during the hiatus but I kind of lost track of time. It's an interactive Java applet so will function in most browsers.
The majority of answers are from Smallville quotes. I'm going to want to do another of these in a few months so I'd love if you could share some of your favorite lines in the comments. Thanks and enjoy!

Smallville 9-08 Idol
Nov. 18th, 2009 12:08 pmA while back, jeannev asked her readers to identify episodes whose reputation is based on one key scene. For me, Idol falls into this category - the final scene lifts it from a fun but fairly routine story into the range of some of Smallville's best episodes ever. Not quite in the same league as Transference, Labyrinth or Apocalypse, but still a resounding A+.

Smallville 9-03 - Rabid
Oct. 16th, 2009 01:53 pmI can't remember an episode that I've enjoyed this much despite the huge number of flaws. The good bits were just so good that I'm prepared to overlook the hideous waste of time and space that is Oliver Queen's arc, not to mention the even more perfunctory than usual "science" of the cure. So I'll give it an A- and rewatch it frequently, but always with the remote in hand to fast forward through the ugly bits.
