Several of my friends have already done this meme and I've found the responses so interesting that I thought I'd bite.

If anyone reading this is interested and would like to participate, just ask to join the fun and I'll give you five random words. The only rule is you have to post the five words and say something about what the words mean to you in your journal.

The five words [livejournal.com profile] twinsarein gave me are: languages, vacation, chores, computer, puzzles

Languages - I enjoy learning languages and have dabbled with German, Japanese and Spanish, but French is my bĂȘte noir. I am quite proficient in a business setting but am just totally blocked when it comes to conversational french. I think in english and want to translate, so am constantly frustrated when I can't come up with the corresponding word. It makes me feel so dumb. I recently took a french placement test and I got so flustered I couldn't even come up with the name of the last movie I'd seen, much less my reaction to it,

Vacation for me used to mean travel, and I'd always come back to work more tired than when I began. I've gone on a couple of package tours but I didn't enjoy them all that much - I need to be able to move at my own pace. Half of my travel is what I'd call culturally oriented - I love the usual suspects New York, Paris, London, etc but my best memories are associated with places I didn't know all that much about and that managed to surprise me. Like Vienna, where we enjoyed a few superb concerts and then had the real Sascher Torte for a treat afterwards - Vienna is not good for the waist line! The other half of my vacations are nature oriented, and it never fails to stagger me how much beauty the world has to offer. Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, the Canadian Rockies, just about any spot with an ocean view, the Masai Mara, the Great Barrier Reef... Just wow!

Chores - I'm really bad about these. Three cats in an apartment means I need to do a lot of vacuuming, and that's pretty much all I usually do. I literally need to list other chores in my weekly planner to even have a chance at keeping up with them.

Computer - I love computers! My major in university was physics and I have a pretty good understanding how they really work it terms of the logic circuits; I'm always amazed at how much has been accomplished with a device that essentially can only take 2 inputs - 0 or 1 - and come up with one of two answers - 1 or 0 - depending on the circumstances.

Puzzles - Puzzles remind me of my mother, who was always buying puzzle books for recreation. She showed me how to do them all, and I was always fascinated. With my new crossword puzzle making program, don't be surprised if I produce a new puzzle every month or so!
