World Cup Day 2
June 12, 2010
One of my favourite things about the World Cup is that virtually every game counts, given there are only 3 games in the round robin phase. A tie against a weaker opponent can be as devastating to a team's chances as a loss.
Korea-Greece: Someone actually won a game! And by scoring two goals! And it was Korea! Greece are in big trouble in a group that looks very competitive.
Argentina-Nigeria: Argentina is the team I love to hate, dating way back to the days of Maradona. I do admire their ability to score, but I associate them with a lot of stage play that just gets on my nerves. They never looked in any danger here, but if I was a fan I would have expected more goals.
England-US: The US tied this on what has to earn consideration for the title of worst goal of all time. The very sloppy goal-keeping must have all English fans in near panic. Still, their other opponents in the group (who play tomorrow) look much weaker so I'd expect both England and the US to go through to the quarters.
